When the rain falls
it gathers in the potholes
the dipped
not so evenly carved out
valleys
deep earth scars
that hold it
more tenderly
than Angel hugs
until unnoticed
drop by drop
they evaporate in a
Sun’s Shine
that can never be imagined
only experienced
so that it wishes
for yet another time
when the rain falls
The FOG
Have you ever been in
THE FOG. . .
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
not the kind you drive in
THE FOG
that comes from the
Perfect Storms
in our lives
that suck all of the
Joy
Happiness
Reason
Purpose
L I F E
out of us. . .
THE FOG
gets born
from all of the
WHY’S
HOW COME’S
WHAT FOR’S
that batter us
from all fronts
and literally leave us
rudderless
and virtually
without any
i n s t r u m e n t a t i o n
to guide us
like we are living in
THE FOG
Sometimes
there is a
Fog within a Fog
One dissipates
While the other
remaining nameless
s t a y s
trying on different hats
all out of style
and never very
c o m p l i m e n t a r y
discarded for a Salvation Army bin
on an empty lot
but worn as a badge of honor
by the soul
Psssssssssssssssssssssssssssssst:
The greatest thing about
THE FOG
is that it lifts. . .
(keep your sunglasses handy)
And if you want to
h u r r y
THE FOG
shoooooo-ing out of sight
CREATE YOUR OWN SUNSHINE
. . .ACT AS IF
(all-ways)
Just a Minute, NOW
It might be an over simplification of things
O R N O T;
Bad Days Happen
but
Good Days Remain
and it’s not the bad things that remain forever
(it only feels like it)
so much as the good
that overshadows them;
It’s true
when the storm comes
the hurricane destroys
the tornado uproots
the fire incinerates
the flood sweeps away
the blizzard immobilizes
just a minute, now
r e c o g n i z e
n o t i c e
s e e
the sun shines warmly
the cool breezes soothe
the candle flickers and glows out darkness
the gentle ocean waves hypnotize
so though it may sound
severely simple
watch a baby smile
smell some fresh baked cookies
listen to your favorite play list
call a friend
send an anonymous gift
Just a minute, now
BE FOR SOMEONE
WHAT YOU NEED MOST FOR YOURSELF
Just a minute, now
watch the world change
as the way you
SEE
SMELL
TOUCH
HEAR
TASTE
EXPERIENCE

HARDWIRING HAPPINESS
It’s always one of the most important questions. . .
but not as important as
T H E A N S W E R:
A R E Y O U H A P P Y
Seriously. . .
ARE YOU MORE
Eeyore or Pooh. . .
Rocky or Mr T
Beauty or The Beast
Cop or Robber
Sweet or Sour
Hot or Mild
Mountain or Valley
It seems, doesn’t it
that at times we have a fantastic pull
to ignore the good in life
and focus instead on the bad. . .
E N T E R R I C K H A N S O N
He’s a psychologist who wrote a book a few years ago:
HARDWIRING HAPPINESS
His main thesis is this:
Humans’ hardwired tendency is to go negative. It’s whats allowed our ancestors to survive. And for depression-prone folks, this proclivity to see the glass half empty is even worse. To mitigate that negativity bias, we need to “RE-WIRE” our brains for resilience and happiness. You do this by taking a few seconds throughout the day to think about and really soak in the good stuff you have going in your life. It’s basically a form of cognitive behavioral therapy, but it’s incredibly easy to do and the results are powerful. . . .
It’s tough being a Caring Catalyst
but it’s not always the achieving or the maintaining of being
a Caring Catalyst
that’s so important
so much as the attempt
so much as the intention
so much as the overall consistency
that’s significant. . .
So even when you’re feeling more like Eeyore
P O O H U P
and realize that even on Cloudy
OVER CAST DAYS
the Sun still shines
. . .especially if you let it shine through you;
THINK ON THAT
